Wednesday I went to the Nike Runner's Lounge (NRL) for the first time in a few weeks. It was an absolutely gorgeous day, sunny, not humid, and hot out at 32 degrees! Three of us did hill repeats; it was a good yet hard workout. We did a light run from Coal Harbour up pipeline to the long hill in Stanley Park. There's a definite incline but it's pretty steady.
There was another huge running group (I'm thinking from the Running Room) of about twenty people also doing hill repeats. I like how only other runners can understand things like hill repeats, haha. The few tourists that passed by were looking at us all as if we were crazy. For the first time in a while my lungs hurt and though that's not a pleasant feeling it was welcomed if that makes any sense.
After "we ate that hill for breakfast" (as one of the team members says) we did a light run around Beaver Lake and then headed back toward Coal Harbour and stopped at one of the bridges (kind of near the rowing club) and did a few more hill repeats there. That seemed easier because even though it was much steeper the length was a lot shorter. Then we took it easy when running back to the NRL. I walked past it for a cool down and stretched some. It was a great day!
Thursday I did some weight training so that was good...not much else to report on that.
Yesterday I went to the NRL again...and I had forgotten that they are closed on Fridays. RAWR!!! Which I was really disappointed in because I was looking forward to my run. The funny thing is that I was thinking about doing 1200's at the gym's track but decided I'd go for a trail run instead. So I figured I'd throw my gym bag in a bush and go for a run anyway but I was too worried someone would take it so I just ended up taking a long walk around Lost Lagoon, Second Beach and then all the way up to downtown. Because of a bad car crash on the Lion's Gate Bridge transit and traffic was at a stand still for over two hours so walking was probably faster anyway. When I got home I did some pilates.
This is a virtue I do not possess very much of in certain circumstances. I find it extremely irritating to have to wait for something I want right now! Running (and sports in general) is not something I like to hold myself back on. I am craving a run like nobody's business but I know I cannot go yet. :( The biking and elliptical just don't cut it for me; my mind doesn't equate that to running a marathon even though I know it's helping.
After my little "test" run my calves are tight (not nearly as bad as they were.) So I'll still need some time off. This is super disappointing. I talked to one of my team members that usually gives me a lift to the Sunday's GTS (group training session) and told her I'd be missing another run. Stupid shins! The GOOD news is that she and her cousin raised around an incredible $5,000.00 from the pub night they held yesterday evening, yay!!
I love running. I remember when I thought running for a few minutes without walking seemed taxing. When I first got into it having to give myself pep-talks in order to actually get out there and run. Now, it's hard to refrain myself!
Haven't done cardio (besides walking) since Thursday's run. I've been doing a lot of core workouts the past few days - washboard abs here I come (ok maybe not to that extreme!!) Now if only my butt would become buns of steel....I digress, time to end this post. :)

I'm not in a good mood today. I could not for the life of me fall asleep last night because my hand was hurting sooo much, UGH!!! I took three painkillers and a bunch of advil...that didn't help. So I raised my arm over my head to see if less blood flow would help...nada. So I finally grabbed an ice pack and took off the dressings, which were soaked in blood. It was still bleeding so I re-wrapped it up and iced it. That did help (or maybe it just went numb, haha.) I got 2.5 hrs of sleep from 09:00 - 11:30 and I'm buggered but I don't want to sleep more for fear of further messing up my sleep schedule. Now my thumb is bluish and my hand still hurts. I am thinking I need to go to a doctor because it shouldn't be bleeding, hurting so much, and have that much discolouration where there was previously none...stupid hand. Needless to say I haven't done anything today.
In other news...I did some pilates and core strengthening workout (modified so I wouldn't hurt the hand more) and it went well. I think my abs shall be hurting tomorrow.
Have I mentioned that I hate the way painkillers make me feel all dopey?
/end griping
As you can probably guess from your highly intelligent deductive skills, I did some core strengthening again today...I WAS planning on running but I forgot what time the Runner's Lounge was open and wasn't able to make it there due to a meeting...I know you're thinking why not just go? Because I had my stuff with me to change into and no where to put my other clothes.
It's ok though because technically it was supposed to be a rest day anyway, I just wanted to run...so I stuck with the ab torture instead. I now am noticing more definition of the abs though! (Or maybe I'm just hallucinating, haha)
42.2k in a marathon...that much closer to a cure, help me out!
So it's Thursday, a "rest" day. The weather was gorgeous and I was soooo tempted to go out and run but I knew it would be best to give my knee a rest, going up and down the stairs bug it a bit. Instead, I focused on core strengthening and isometric moves for hips and glutes. In total I did 50 mins so that isn't too bad!
I just finished watching the NHL Awards on CBC and they just had a clip about Saku Koivu and his battle with lymphoma. Just can't get away from these awful diseases. It's why I'm running. Help me run a marathon to cure cancer!
So there was no running today; though I did walk a whole lot throughout the day. I also did some pilates and core strengthening exercises we used to do in diving....holy crap I need to work on that more, haha.
I've also realized that I need to eat more. I've been eating healthy but just not consuming near enough calories for my body. So I'm going to try to work on that.

Oh! I purchased a running hat and will be sure to test it out soon :)
